Sedona country, red rocks and lots of jeep trails (not to mention big tourist crowds in the city of Sedona).
With all the hikes we have done, we have never seen a rattlesnake. Guess we can cross that off the list. We've probably
passed a hundred without knowing it, but this one had no place to hide.
We did a tour of an ancient Puebloan location where there were hundreds of pictographs, many dating back 15,000 years. These
were from the period about a 1000 years ago. The one on the right was representative of the mountains across the way and
showed the relative location of the sun for the summer and winter solstice
Fun to go jeep riding around the area.
Easy hiking, perfect weather, we'll be back.
The classic picture of Sedona. Had some good food also and discovered some local brews. This is another area where we
will be back.
From Sedona, we headed back to Fort Worth to visit family (especially those grandkids) and also to go to the Texas Tech - TCU football
game on October 25th. It was fun seeing everyone and the hype for the game was super ... lots of Tech fans. But the game
was a rout ... Tech losing 82 - 27 (and it wasn't that close!). At halftime, we were very much in it, little did we know. So
we saw why TCU was one of the teams that was in contention for the football championship playoff. Based on what we saw, they
should have been in it. As an afterthought, we must have been drinking too much wine 6 months before when we planned for attending
this game.
Thanks for visiting our web site. In early 2015 we are planning a trip to California. Check back in March.
Sedona and Back to Texas
After getting the oil and filter change, we drove on down to Cottonwood, Arizona. Camping in Dead Horse Ranch State Park, only
about 20 miles from Sedona, we could easily get to trail heads and sites in the area. The park had some nice day hiking
trails also around the river and some lakes. We enjoyed some local brews from the area and jeep trails around Sedona.
Then headed back to Texas to visit family in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Although this was a short trip, we plan to make
up for it next year with a couple of more extensive trips.
